Comment on the idea of "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth," and the concept of taking the law into your own hands.

  1. How really knows about justice? since i know is hard to make justice with your own hands. In the other hand, is hard to trust on others that try to make justice. Something that i learned is life that no matter what you do when you try to make someone pay for something they done to you wrong. I had a problem with my classmates since we were in elementary school through high school, i want them to pay for the pain the caused on me. I wanted to take revenge but i noticed that it wasn't me. Also that sooner or later they will learn a lesson going through painful things. Justice will make people pay for their mistakes we can take the law in our hands. We leave justice in god's hand.

  2. The idea of " an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth" makes sense in certain situations. Our legale system put that to work with locking someone up if they do something wrong, and some states sentences the death penalty. As far as taking the law into our own hands i feel that its not the right thing to do, but some people feel like thats the best way to settle something.I honestly wouldnt take the law into my own hands, just gotta learn how to forgive and forget.

  3. "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth," is a phrase i often heard when i was young. Many people, including the love ones that surrounded me believed that this was the only way that justice could ever be served. But I always thought differently and still do, because I know that when you take the law into your own hands, not only does a person get hurt. But your love ones do to. I don't always agree with the law, but i rather things to get settle the right way, then somebody innocent to get hurt.

  4. The idea "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth," makes sense if the loss is monetary. For instance if somebody took your car and destroyed it, then it would be very easy for the judge to evaluate the value of the car and order repayment. However, when it comes to the loss of life there is nothing that could replace such loss. If somebody killed your son, what do you do? You could go and kill that person’s son, or kill the person who committed the crime himself or herself. But that doesn’t make you whole again. You can never get back what you’ve lost. In words of Mahatma Gandhi:
"An eye for an eye for an eye for an eye ... ends in making everybody blind."

  5. The idea "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth", is the oldest known law. It came from Chamurapi I believe. It would work thousands years ago but not in this age. Today we have human rights and judicial system full of lawyers caring more about money than justice itself. I don't think that taking the law into our hands is a good idea even though people still [and will] do that. No individual has right to take life of other individual even though it is painfull to lose someone close to us. I believe that everything hapens for reason and that in the god will make last judgement...

  6. The old saying, "an eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth," has been around for a long time. First thing that comes to mind is what ever is done must be done in return equally. Moreover, the true meaning of revenge is associated with the famous saying. Plus, it also has the same meaning as the saying, " What goes around comes around." Personally I myself agree with the saying, but it depends on the circumstances and limits on where I draw the line to gain revenge. In the environment I'm from and live there is no such thing as talking to police. The majority of people of unbelievable ages in my neighborhood rather find justice on their own terms. Retaliation without thinking is what I call it, which is a form of stupidity because it just wines down to two senseless reasons, "not being a snitch and wanting to feel superior."

  7. The phrace "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth" was in the bible. Which meant that if you have hurt someone you have to make it up to them. for instance, If you broke their iPod then you would have to give him or her your iPod or buy anoher one therefore it's an equivalent exchange. I think this would apply to the law When you do something wrong you have to fix it, instead of wating for someone to tell you it's wrong and something should be done.

  8. I think that the idea of "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth" is not a good idea. The world is already bad as it is and if people follow that logic it would be even worse. I think the job of judgeing people is up to god and not us. I get frustrated with multiple things that happen in life and if i was to take matters into my own hands i believe it would make me satisfied at the time but not in the long run. I believe in Karma and in not doing to others what you don't want done to you. I make decisions based on those two ideas.

  9. "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth" in my opinion is a good thing and many times a bad thing. I think it is a good thing because if someone does a favor for you, you should return the favor back. If we are discussing it in the meaning of it being bad than i don't think it is a good saying. If someone did something mean to you than I suggest that you don't want to do something mean back. If you want to be nice and someone did you a favor than yes, give that person something nice back in return. I believe in another saying "what goes around, comes around," I believe in this because it is true. Many times I have seen people get themselves into trouble because they want to get revenge on another person who hurt them. I just think as well that this world is too evil as it is and people just need to get along with each other.

  10. The idea of "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth," in my opinion means to take revenge over someone who has hurt you. Or it could be in the good way too, as when you do a favor, you will get pay back the same or better. Also, I think the concept of taking the law into our hands is a bad idea. We know that Justice is blind, but at the it always resolve things, and its the best decision than take the law by your own hands

  11. The saying an Eye for an Eye a tooth for a tooth in my honest opinion is a bad thing. I guess simply because i was always raised that one bad thing plus another is just more trouble. getting even is not that way to settle anything. Instead of getting even you should try to figure out of way of not doing wrong cause then there would be no reason for retaliation. There is already enough trouble and evil in the world another person going out of there way to get even is unnecessary.

  12. The phrase "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth," means to take revenge. In basically it means if somebody punch you in the face you have to do the same or if someone helps you then you have to do the same. But most of the culture take this phrase as violently and that result into taking law into our hand. Now a day lot of youngster are believing in taking revenge instead of forgiveness.

  13. The phrase "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth," is a phrase originally taken from the Bible. It does not neccessarily mean revenge, but it means to do to others as they do to you. For example: If I were a farmer and a rival farmer sent theives to take some of my livestock from underme, I'd want to get back at him the same way(taking law into my own hands). - Daniel Pierre-Louis

  14. "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooht" we use that expression most of the time as a revenge, but we can use it too when someone do something good for us and we return the same way. When we take law into our own hands is something that we shouldn't do because God is the only one who make us to pay for our bad actions and not us the human beings.

  15. "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth" This was a way of justice for many cultures back thousands of years ago, and it is still used today in some societies. As Americans however, we dont see this as an acceptable way of justice for our society. Like many people said, it is why we have a Court System with many levels of justice depending on the committed crime. No matter how much you may want to get back at the individual that put his/her hands on one of your loved ones (for example), it is also those laws/rules protecting the criminal. Which makes taking the law into our own hands ILLEGAL. However, sometimes there are times where I feel that Justice doesnt punish criminals the way they should be. For example, I watched the news one time, it mentioned about a guy that killed his whole family; his wife, a 12yr old girl and a 9year old boy. He was sent to jail, and 8 years later he was released out of prison. With todays rules, thats what we have to accept. But in that case, if I had been on the victims family's shoes, I think I would've higly considered taking action into my own hands. But I pray that, that will never be the case. What would you have done?
