An ancient Chinese proverb says: "A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step." What is the furtherest you have journeyed from your home? Where did you go? Did you enjoy the experience?

Be sure to put your first name and the initial of your last name on the post, so we know who you are (otherwise your post will not be accepted and we won't get to read your interesting story . . .)

  2. The futherst I have journeyed from home is, when i went back to my country (colombia). But i don't consider that much of journey because is a place that i have been to already, even though is the farthest! To me wasn't as much exitment. the farthest i have journeyed was when i first moved to my neighborhood (N. Broadway in yonkers). The first thing i did was walk around threw the many streets, at one point i did get lost! But that was a great experience, getting lost and being able to find your way back by yourself. Is something i enjoy doing, and gives me time to myself to think and be at peace!!

  3. Considering Poland as my home, the furthest journey I have ever made was the trip to the United States. The difference between the two places is substantial. The climate; social, political and economical situation; religions; and people all differ from that of Poland. Those differences, however, made me fall in love with this country and caused me to stay here. The one thing I enjoy and cherish the most about the USA is freedom

  4. The furthest I have travelled from my home (which I consider to be Southern California), was when I travelled from LAX to Frankfurt, Germany, to connect to my flight to Cairo, Egypt (total travel time: 24 hours). I had met an Egyptian doctor in March 2000, while he was in Southern California for medical training. Three months later he returned to Egypt, but we stayed in regular contact. After 9/11, we decided life is just too short and we felt we had to see each other again. So, on December 23, 2001, without telling any of my friends (they would have tried to talk me out of it) I nervously and excitedly boarded a Lufthansa jet and headed off to Egypt. I spent my first day, Christmas Eve, at the pyramids in Giza -- just me, him, and the camel drivers -- because of 9/11, the entire plateau was completely deserted. It was a cosmic, mystical, spiritual moment I will never forget. We spent time in Cairo, Aswan, Luxor, the Valley of the Kings, and the Valley of the Queens. I fell in love with him, and I fell in love with Egypt. I cried when I had to leave; but got the chance to return four more times. Our romance lasted several years, our friendship almost a decade, until he died suddenly in January of 2008. I cherish all my memories of Egypt, but nothing rivals my first trip in December 2001.

  6. The furtherest I have ever journeyed from my home is to the U.S itself. I used to live in Europe so, for me is NY obviously the furtherest place I have ever been. Iam still on my journey and so far I enjoy it a lot.I miss my family and lots of friends, but life is going on and I would like to take most of it.

  7. The furthest ive ever travelled from my home was to Europe. I traveled to Italy with my family 3 different times. Ive visited Rome, Florence, Milan, Venezia and Porto Vienna. All 3 times have been nothing short of amazing. The site seeing such as the vatican city in rome, the people of the capital city rome, the culture, but ESPECIALLY the food! If you think new york has good pizza there is nothing like pizza in italy. The crust is so thin and sauce is out of this world. If theres one goal in my life i would like to achieve its to live in italy for some period of time in my life, im positive i would enjoy it.

  8. The furthest I have ever travelled from home was to Jamica. I travelled to Jamica about fives times. I enjoyed every sec and min. of Jamica from the time spent with family, sights, weather, food, way of life, and freedom. It's hard to start on the moments I cherish the most, but I would have to say when my mother taught me how to swim in One Day! The food was always fresh and preped to excellence. When I was leaveing I was very upset, however I left Jamica with a couple experiences. The experiences I gain was learning to swin, first time on a beach, first time riding a jet ski, and first time climbing a coconut tree to actually get coconuts.

I go some where new every year. Technically speaking going to Santo Domingo was probably the furthest. I go there with my family all the time that i wouldn't consider it a journey. The first road trip i took with just me and my two best friends was more of a journey. It was the first time i ever drove somewhere out of state. We were going to Virginia Beach for a couple of nights. We had such a great time driving. One of my friends was speeding and we got pulled over and we couldn't help but laugh because it wasn't her car and we were in another state getting pulled over by a police officer who had such a thick accent. To top it all of she got a ticket and had to appear in court in that State. It is far to have to drive all the way to Virginia for a ticket.

  11. I am from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I have been very far from Brazil, as I lived in Singapore form three years. When I lived there, I visited New Zealand, which is the furthest I have been from Rio. My family and I traveled in the South island in a camper van. It was a lot of fun. New Zealand is amazing. It is very pretty, especially for those who love nature. I went hiking a lot and saw many cool birds. The highlight of my trip was when I went white water river sledging. The current was very strong but it was an amazing experience, even though I got thrown of my board once and was held under water for a bit. At the time it was scary, but since I was wearing a helmet, wetsuit, and life jacket I knew I would eventually come back up. I hope to go back to New Zealand again.

  12. The furthest I had traveled is from Mexico to United States that was approximately 6hrs. When I knew that I was going to live in New York, I was very happy. When I was little I wanted to live here because I knew that I’ll have more opportunities to grow as a person and get a better education. This country has notable differences compare to my country which were a barrier for me when I got here. First, people are cold and selfish, no matter from which country they are from; they live running around doing errands, working, and thinking about themselves. Second, language, I had to learn it in order to express my feelings otherwise people will take advantage of me. Third, there are people from different countries sharing a vast of ideas and thoughts. It was hard at the beginning to adapt to these changes, but I really enjoyed the idea of knowing new people to open my mind and realize that are some many things to enjoy in life.

  14. The furtherest I have journeyed from my home was when I came to the United States. I didn't really enjoy it, because I came by plane and it wasn't interesting. But, I did enjoy I trip that I made from New York to Foxboro, Massachussetts with my friends. We went there to watch a soccer game, so it was a really good time that I spend with them.

  15. The furtherest I have journeyed from my home was when I left my country(Quito-Ecuador)many years ago to come to the United States. I never imagined coming to this country, but it was all worth it, because I got to meet people from different parts of the world,a new language,a new culture, and many religions. Coming here just really opened many doors for me, and has given me a better future in my life. Eventhough, living behind my cousins, grandparents, uncles, and friends was very hard to do, I know that they are very proud of me and support me always. This was truly a great experience in my life and am very happy to be living in such wonderful country.

  16. The furtherest I have journeyed from my home was when I can to the United states. I did like the whole experience because I came a direct fright. I spend eleven hours up in the air with my family. I did not know anyone expect from the people i came. I left my relatives and adjusting to a new live style was the hardest for me.

  17. The furtherest journey I have ever gone is to Cuenca, Ecuador. I am first generation in my family to be born here in the United States. My brother and parents were all born over in Ecuador. I don't consider it much of a journey because I have been going there every year or sometimes even twice ever since I was 2 years old. Although I do enjoy every second of every minute that I am over there. I guess its because I have most of my family there and everyone lives right near each other. Also probably because I get to go out like crazy over there because I have about 20 cousins or more around my age. So I find it easy to go out and just hang out with them. Ecuador has a part of my heart and hopefully I get to go this summer for 2 months. At least I'm praying to God I get go.

  18. The furthest I have jurnied out side of my home was to St. Barth’s. I went with my two best friends Hannah and Liz. The reason we went there was because Hannah’s family owns a house there and she invited us. It was the most wonderful and beautiful vacation I have ever been on. St. Barth's is spectacular! If you don’t know it or haven’t heard of it, it is a very small island in the Caribbean in the French West Indies. I hope to go back one day because it is the most beautiful place on earth.
